Similar to The Blair Witch Project and Midsommar, The Lost Village is a hard to capture mix of horror and suspense. Documentary filmmaker and crew travel to Silvertjarn, Sweden, to find out what happened to the residents of Silvertjarn who just up and disappeared in 1959. If you’re a fan of Scandinavian horror stories and thrillers, then the setting of The Lost Village and the story that goes along alongside it will make for perfect page turner that should not be missed.

    Plot Summary

The Lost Village is a head sinfully complicated story and one that takes a long, very rich look at the dark secrets and mysteries of Silvertjarn. A documentary about a filmmaker traveling to the ghost town with her crew to make a movie about why its residents vanished, the documentary follows the filmmaker on this journey.

Now they don’t realise just how far they’re taking themselves into the town’s frankly extensive history, so much so that they’re picking up the odd little signs pointing the way to the town’s apparent disappearance wasn’t as straightforward as expected. The plot is filled with plenty of twists and turns keeping readers on their tenterhooks desperately trying to work out exactly what happened in the town's dark past.

    Characters

The already great story is even better with it, as the characters are complex, well developed. He’s a strong person, a strong, determined person, who wants to get to the root of it. As well developed are her supporting characters, her crew, and everyone else in her life. Due to what the characters do with and to each other, suspense as well as tension in the story increase.

  • Themes

The Lost Village individually and as one take on the power of truth, the peril of secrets and of individuals and of a community. It also talks about isolation and what it’s like for people in either a remote or rural area. What has arisen is a very interwoven narrative and these themes are portrayed thus creating the story richer and more complex.

    Writing Style and Pacing

Camilla Sten’s writing style for Silvertjarn is descriptive and immersive, snapping the reader into the world of the novel and won’t let you go. It is a steady pacing novel, a very steady revelation and twist to the plot that keeps you invested in the book. It’s atmospheric and spooky — so even the whole story has that feeling of being tense and uneasy.

    Conclusion

The Lost Village: A novel is a thriller and a chilling story of interest to horror, suspense and mystery lovers. This is a rich, must read for anyone looking for a thrilling and thought provoking story.

The way Camilla Sten writes and ensures the story is paced doesn’t let you go, builds up the tension and suspense until you’re hooked. As there is no one hero on whom you can root for in The Lost Village, that does not diminish its appeal at all for a reader.
