Cobweb Full Movie
A 2023 American horror-thriller film, “Cobweb” (2023) is directed by Samuel Bodin, and written by Chris Thomas Devlin, is an impressive entry into the genre. Lionsgate Films released the film in stateside theaters on August 21, 2023, the same day that it had a restricted theatrical showing in the US.
Cinematographer: Philip Lozano, Starring: Lizzy Caplan, Woody Norman, Cleopatra Coleman, Antony Starr. Lionsgate Films, Media Capital Technologies, Point Grey Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment are the production companies of the film. The horror lurks beneath the surface in Cobweb, peering to the surface of what is often described as 'psychological horror' and 'family dynamics.'
Cobweb Movie Explained
Cobweb is about an especially bullied coward loner named Peter, who hears strange voices from the walls of his bedroom. At first, these voices are frightening; but then, as his parents start to lose their patience with his mischief, this voice in the wall starts to be comforting. But, as the film goes on, you will find out that the voice is not what it means to be, and those intentions aren’t at all pure. It all starts out quietly and basically continues to descend into mini unsettling events punctuating the text, until it reaches a throat-ragging horror scenario.
Intimately woven within the plot of the film is Peter’s experiences paralleling the mysterious disappearance act of a trick-or-treating child on Halloween night. And the parents, Carol and Mark, take this disappearance as an excuse to withhold Peter from a joyous Halloween for he feels alone and afraid. Miss Devine, Peter’s teacher, whilst caring for Peter’s well-being, makes the plot even more confused.
The cinematography by Philip Lozano is a good make use of all through the film, giving an oppressive and creepy ambiance on the way it’s used to create the film's oppressive ambiance. The patchwork consistency of 'Cobweb' is capitalized on by the identically strong cast; especially of the visual elements and the commanding Woody Norman as Peter, Lizzy Caplan as Carol and Antony Starr as Mark, 'Cobweb's' appealing visual and emotional attractions.
Cobweb Movie Reviews
Reviews of Cobweb have not been positive. A score of 59% on Rotten Tomatoes of 94 critics’ reviews gives it an average rating of 5.9/10. The website’s consensus reads: “As if this itsy bitsy horror film wasn’t still creeping and crawling enough.” On Metacritic, which weighted average 14 critics scored the film a score of 50 out of 100, indicating 'mixed or average' reviews.
The actors have come in for praise, with critics congratulating the film on its atmospheric tension. Valerie Complex of Deadline Hollywood pointed out that, for example, the movie’s strengths are in its already established atmosphere of intrigue and suspense. However, some critics have come down on the film for how unsatisfying it ends, with one plugging in, ‘the ending had me waiting for the screen to change, wondering if that was really it.”
Similarly, the audience reactions have been varied. The film has an IMDb rating of 5.9, and viewers love some of the film’s ability to make you feel unease and tension. ‘It’s a short 1hr 28 minutes and gets the best out of every minute,’ one user had to say. The cinematography is beautiful and it’s actually really tense and creepy, at points.” One other viewer said, “It feels so traumatizing horror story you’d read as a kid in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.”
But the film’s pacing and ending have left some viewers cold. Even one reviewer was underwhelmed, writing, 'the ending was bad. I was sitting so bad there kinda annoyed.' The caveat, another user chimed in, is that it's a subtle creeper: "all ambiance, no substance—like a pot of water that never boils."
Cobweb Movie Netflix
'At least for right now, 'Cobweb' is not available on Netflix when this date happens.' A September 12, 2023 release date was set on DVD and Blu-ray formats following its release on digital formats August 11, 2023. Now, fans of the film can stream it on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, or Apple TV.
Is It Good?
It’s a matter of ‘Is “Cobweb” a good film?’–a matter of subjectivity. “Cobweb” rewards anyone who likes psychological horror and nightmarish ambiance with a pulse-pounding, unnerving journey. However, with a fine cast and despite its propensity to cause unease, it’s worth seeing to the film’s credit.
But “Cobweb” is probably too inventive for viewers who want ‘a little more horror’ and want a nice, clear and satisfying resolution. But while others hate the film’s pacing and ending — many complaining the narrative is directionless and does not come to an acceptable conclusion — others praise it as a uniquely poetic exploration of death and faith, and an unapologetic paean to Thomas’s mighty drug.
All in all, “Cobweb” is a movie that does make you feel just as if you are sick in the head, but there is nothing terrifying in this, and you already knew most of that coming from the way we import and export everything (your situation is familiar from both sides). The jury’s already out on whether it’s good or not, making it a matter of taste and expectations.
