The Patriot is a historical drama movie of Benjamin Martin, a widowed farmer who, after widowed, he fights British Army as a patriot in the American Revolutionary War. In fact, the movie is a sort of exploration about all of this – Family, loyalty, and sacrifice.

The Patriot Movie Explained

Set in 1776 during the American Revolution, the Patriot. Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) lives with his six children on a farm in South Carolina, after his wife died. Even though Benjamin tries to hang neutral, his oldest son Gabriel (Heath Ledger) joins the Continental Army and pulls Benjamin right in. Benjamin learns how war cuts down on his entire family, and he needs to come to terms with war itself.

The movie’s story switches from a pacifist farmer, Benjamin, to a determined patriot. Benjamin must face his own demons and make cruel decisions in order to choose between up arms against the British and the wellbeing of his family. The Patriot storyline is a gripping look at the human and soul costing of war and the sacrifices had to be given for our families and our country.

The Patriot Movie Review

One of the best things about The Patriot is that it’s just a very well crafted and probably star anchored kind of film. Benjamin Martin is portrayed by Mel Gibson as the man most fittingly delivers a powerful portrayal of the character. Heath Ledger stars as one of his early parts, Gabriel Martin, eldest son of Benjamin. The two leads are a guaranteed delight to watch and there's a whole host of talented actors to compliment them.

Breathtaking cinematography — of war and its beauty and its brutality. The action sequences are intensely choreographed, and oh so dramatic; the dramatic moments are poignant and, very emotionally resonant. John Williams, who composed The Patriot's score, did it all perfectly: with just the right mood and tone, completely setting the scene.

Is The Patriot Good?

The Patriot is a great film that is an absolute steal and one that we should all see. This historical drama, action, film is not only has great actors, great cinematography as well as great direction.

The Patriot is not an overly violent film and it leans more mature and even in some cases more intense, but The Patriot is really a rewarding and impactful film that will leave the viewers thinking about what sacrifices were made by those who were fighting for American independence. The Patriot offers an excellent choice as it is an amazing and unforgettable view.
